Election (Continued from Page 1) before the people for approval. “For the past* two years most of the money available has been spent for the extension of water and sewer lines. If Zebulon is to continue to grow this will be true for the years ahead of us. At the present time and for the past two years the water and sewer lines that have been extended into new areas of town have been paid for by both the town and property owners. This, I am sure, will continue to be the policy of our governing body. “During these next two years we will continue to turn our at tention to the collections of back taxes and other items of revenue for the town. No town can meet its obligations and make progress unless it collects the revenues that j are due it. It will be to the ad i vantage of the citizens of Zebulon j to pay these taxes and other items of revenue promptly and thereby not have additional interest or cost added. “We request the support of the people to help us make Zebulon a better place in which to live, work, and play. With your sup port this can be done. “I would like to praise the town VOTE FOR IRA H. Our streets are badly in need of repair, too. They nerd to be curbed and guttered.” Farmer added that he would like to see during the next two years parking facilities on main street improved. He wants this done without having to have the cars marked as was approved by the Board last winter. He believes this could be rectified if the mer chants, business people and peo ple working down town would find other places to park other than on main street, thus saving this park ing area for customer parking. ‘‘Our community park also needs attention,” Farmer said. Commissiortatr Raleigh Alford, long time member of the Board, said: ‘‘I am looking forward to water filtering and sewage dis posal plants for the town. These projects are definitely in the plan ning stage. “We all know that Zebulon is growing, and in order to grow we have to have these facilities to take care of any people who come into the town. We have got to provide for them. i nave enjoyed serving as Town Commissioner. I have learned a great deal about how to get along with people and something about the problems of the town.” Mrs. Elizabeth Ellett, seeking her second term as a commissioner, is interested in the development of the outlying areas of the town. ‘‘There are two projects I want to see done during the next ad ministration,” Mrs. Ellett said “These are the securing of a wa tering filtering plant and a sewage disposal plant. These projects have got to be done while we can get Federal aid.” She spoke of the work done by Mayor Ed Hales. “He has done a mighty fine job. He has started a lot of projects and the people ought to help and give their sup port.” Mrs. Ellett said, too, that “our town is better off now than in many a year.” Commissioner Thurman Hepler, also seeking his second term as a member of the Board, said: “We have got to have a water filtering plant and a sewage disposal plant.” Hepler said the town fathers have been observing an open pool filtering type plant in Troy, N. C. He said this type plant will cost only half as much as the regular type plant. “If it will work for the town of Troy I believe it would work for the town of Zebulon,” Hepler said. “We have absolutely got to do something about the town’s water system,” he said. Hepler said, too, that town ex pansion is one of the major issues. “If Zebulon is to grow, we must think about the, future of expan- | sion.” Corbett, who led the ticket in j the last election, was not reached j for comment on his platform.
